I'm with Baf - 8 glasses (8 oz. each) a day or at least half your body weight (in ounces, not pounds) of water a day.
Now, if this thread is referring to the over abundance of rain in several parts of the world, then I must say I feel really bad for those who are flooded out. Much damage including many lost lives.
But, I gotta believe there are some parts of the earth that could use a lot of good, clean, pure drinking water. Probably somewhere in Africa.

The entire Middle East could do with some good healthy heavy rainfall, along with Africa of course... Turn some of those deserts into nice fertile farmlands... Then maybe we wouldn't have so much starvation over there...

Sadly that is nothing new... Also they waste more water bottling water in a single day than a person does flushing their toilet all year... And by waste I mean spillage and over flows and whatnot...Igloop wrote:Not sure if anybody cares, but bottled water companies are taking a lot of water from some places in the U.S. and drying up the water tables, they use up serious amounts of water, at ridiculous prices too. It's getting pretty bad.
In fact it has been proven that Tap water is indeed healthier than bottled water because of the stiffer filtration regulations that government water supply has to adhere to, while bottled water companies don't... Furthermore it has been proven that some of the chemicals used in the plastic bottles seeps into the water in the bottle... Some have even claimed that
But no one cares, they still buy it by the gallons and chug it down... And often people don't even finish the bottle...

I made it a pretty open ended question. Maybe people can't afford to pay their water bills. Whatever the case may be, to promote drinking 8 glasses a day, I would like to make a suggestion for TUTMACP. The Unofficial Tex Murphy Aqua Compensation Plan. If approved this plan allows members who have joined in 2005 to receive 1 plastic water bottle for every year they turn in taxes that show they made less than $100 for that year. (Sorry, no back compensation)
For those who are leery towards tap water, might I suggest boiling it. That's what breweries do during the sterilization process.

Ain't nothing wrong with Tap water, I'll choose that over Bottled water any day...
I had to buy bottled water Monday night though... A water main up the road broke and they shut us down, it was only for 12 hours, but I didn't know how long it was going to be so I went and picked up a couple cases of water...
Didn't buy it so much to drink, but I gotta brush my teeth and I kind of like flushing the toilet, so water was needed...

I almost NEVER drink tap water and I live in the Great Lakes area! And, Detroit is known for its superb tap water! I've just been hooked on bottled water for a few years now. Since I drive an average 100 miles most days, bottled water is especially beneficial and easy to handle. I hate metal and/or plastic drinking containers, so bottles it is!

Interesting, I'm sort of from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which seems to be the area of the United States that people know the least about. I love it, every summer I go back, and while some of the towns don't necessarily have very good water, the area I used to live all the houses had wells drilled, and it is still the most pure and fresh water I've had, I must drink 12 large glasses a day when I'm there. The air is very fresh too, and Lake Superior is oh so refreshing and clean as well, though it's usually Ice cold.Jim the old guy wrote:I almost NEVER drink tap water and I live in the Great Lakes area! You're a Yupper? How cool! We have relatives in the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area as well as Norway. Beautiful country up there. Its too bad it doesn't attrack more tourists from other parts of the country. Although, the college in Marquette coupled with some great winter sports does get some national attention.
Porcupine Mountains, picture rocks, Taquahmanam (sp?) Falls, Soo Locks, Seeney Wildlife Park and several other places are quite breathtaking, especially in the summer. I love it up there.
