Current status of things?

Hi all,

Could someone summarize what the current state of Tex Murphy is? I'll admit that I'm a bit lazy to go digging for this information, but I figure you guys probably know this off the top of your heads. Besides, the more conversation we have around here, the better, right? :D

Also, has anybody ever discussed an open-source Tex Murphy game, so that the task of coding doesn't have to fall on Aaron Conners and team? (Maybe this is impossible, due to legal reasons of some sort or other.)

Oh, and, Happy Holidays, everyone!
First and foremost - welcome to the board! We have a wonderful cornucopia of members from all over the world including places like Israel and Russia. Please visit often.

Second, there is good news and not so good news. Aaron Conners no longer works at Microsoft and when he left he took the rights to Tex Murphy with him. The not so good news concerns the future of Tex. Aaron, deep down inside, would love to produce another game and write more books. However, he now works for Indiebuilt and they are currently pursuing other game options. Does this mean the end of Tex? Not necessarily! Like Mr. Spock would say, "There are always possibilities."

What can we do in the interim? Continue to support this board and keep the faith! While there is a dark cloud surrounding the future of Tex, you never know when a strong wind will clear the skies.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
At this point there really isnt much to tell.

Off and on we have been given hints that perhaps this or that might be in the works but nothing has come of it. Officially no game is in production or is approved. I would say that the idea has been pitched several times to folks but it has been rejected (that's just my guess I dont know that for sure). But I would say thats a safe guess since Aaron seems to still be interested and has at times hinted that he was working on something.

The radio theater is dead and its very unlikely to see another episode.

The idea of a paid episodic game over the internet is the current vision I believe that has been kicked around. However to date I havent heard anything that would make me think its anything more than an idea.

The unoffical web site is back (yahooo!) and a lot of old time posters are back and talking.

Thats basicly it (anyone feel free to add)
What about the possibility of having the community help with the coding of the game? This could help reduce production costs for Aaron. I'm just curious if this is within the realm of possibility, as there are many talented programmers out there (out here?).

And thank you for the warm welcome. I was actually a member of the old boards, but I never really posted that much. I've just been dropping in here and there to lurk a bit. It's just hard to know what the latest and greatest is when you're not on the boards everyday, so thank you both for your information!
Welcome, Pyremes!
Damn glad to see you here.
Truly yours,
Alexander.

You know, coding is probably the cheapest thing in Game Production,
so it won't help :(

Besides, I'm sure people here have enough energy, but probably not enough time to help
in development of a new Tex game...
Using members of the community in almost any capacity is too much of a risk to really gamble with, unless there's a particular member with a good amount of experience with the developer. But on the whole, it's not a viable choice.
