Mac does bundle some amazing apps with their computers, but now your new Mac can come with cancer!

So if you are a Mac user and have been experiencing a weird smell, I would contact Apple just to be safe.

Although, it could just be the smell of Synergy! lol.

Link to the article didn't work...but it is intriguing nevertheless. My Mac Book Pro doesn't have any funny smells coming out of it, it makes some pretty weird sounds when I'm using YouTube though ;) Thanks for the heads-up!

Fixed!

From the article:

While benzene was not mentioned in the posts, many users complained of experiencing headaches, nausea and dizziness. The smell has been variously described as "new car smell", "musty", "rotting carpet" and even cannabis.

Ok....I think that explains the headaches, nausea and dizziness. If we read a report claiming that a MAC user saved the world with a crowbar and a hazmat suit, there's smoke involved but not on Apple's part.
I've said it for years. Macs stink.

PS: Or, in a different turn of phrase, as I like to call them - the Fisher-Price My First Computer.
Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Neat, a computer malfunction that makes its users look like it does.

Whoa! You either heard that from me a long time ago, or you and I think EXACTLY alike. I've been calling them that for years!

That is kinda freaky. And yet so cool.

And both of you so wrong ...

First of all, the stinking Mac's were only found in France, it was only the Mac Pro ... and it turned out to be a load of rubbish: the lab behind the testing is backed by Greenpeace who have a known bee in their bonnet when it comes to Apple.

There isn't a rolleyes big enough on this piece of black propaganda.

Now that's a blind dismissal of the facts if ever I heard it. Lets blame Greenpeace again, not the billion dollar conglomerate which is more commercialised than Microsoft. The chemicals they used for the glues, plastics and solvents did not handle the temperature produced by the parts inside the computer under heavy load and created fumes as they heated up and/or melted slightly. The issue was correctly identified... but then of course the people who manufactured Asbestos also said health claims were bogus and look where that got them!

Hey you don't have to worry, Dell PCs had exploding batteries at one stage, so I think Mac and Mac users can deal with a few little fumes... is it really so hard to believe the facts? Or are the people who dismissed the claims living in France and using Mac Pros?

Wow you think Apple, Dell et others ACTUALLY manufacture the stuff themselves?

You can blame the Chinese / Taiwanese factories for this. Everyone subcontracts out to companies like Flextronics these days because it's cheaper.

So again blaming Apple for this is dead wrong.

Never. Apple iBlame!

Did I say that? No.

Let me explain this to you: It is Apple's fault becuase they are the ones who commission these factories in the first place. So you're telling me even though Apple is the one who gets their parts manufactured in outside factories it is not their responsibility?

Apple chooses who manufactures their parts, and if they pick a factory which uses cheap materials it is becuase Apple decided to cut costs and pick a less reputable manufacturer who uses questionable materials.

And in some cases, nastier if you cut costs... You just proved my point. Thank you.
franton wrote:You can blame the Chinese / Taiwanese factories for this.
This would not have happened if they if they spent a little more money and got the parts made at one of China's or Taiwan's extremely reputable manufacturers. And let's not go into stereotyping here becuase there are just as many dodgy British, American or Australian factories out there too. All factories use what materials they can afford, and if the mother company (in this case Apple) does not supply then with enough finance for the right services (thus saving a cheap buck) they will continue using cheaper parts... simple as that.
