Pandora with Dosbox

You should inform people of where you are going when going on Vacation like that... If you are talking about the Falls Church in VA. I'm right up in Baltimore... You could have brought your computer along and I could have looked at it for you... lol

Glad you had a good time... Much nicer here than 117...

Just now getting around to trying your idea - was busy finishing Overseer and UAKM:)
Kewl... So they are all working well for you???

PD is probably the best by popular vote... So enjoy it, don't try to rush through it, just take your time and explore everything...

Am playing merrily away but finding I am having to use saved games which I do not like to do. First one I used was because no matter how I tried - I finally even followed a WT step by step BUT could not get the Black Arrow Killer to appear so I could wrestle him off the top of the roof.

Now am finding I might have to use another saved game because again no matter what I do or how much I consult a WT I cannot get the crumpled piece of paper to appear at the bottom of the stairs in the cabin nor can I find the disc in the desk drawer - just simply are non existent. Very strange.

So unless I can find same so I can proceed to the next step will again have to resort to saved game. Would like to find out what is going wrong or what I am doing wrong so I do not miss out on all the action:)

Any ideas?
Are you playing off of the Discs??? The only reason things like that would be missing would be because you are missing Files...

I've only heard of one glitch with something missing and that was back in the Ritz in the room Malloy was staying in... The pawn shop ticket doesn't always appear for everyone... But that isn't that big of a deal, because you can get the Dagger later in the game anyway...

Have two sets of discs - and am playing off the original ones now not the burned ones. So far have run into two problems with things missing. I changed WTs and after the sewer puzzle this WT directed the player to talk to the police and ask about the brown wrapping paper postage meter stamp. Have done that but now cannot get Maulden to direct Murphy to the Garden House despite showing him the brown wrapping paper with meter stamp on it.

So seem to be stuck with two WTs

1 - directs me to cabin where disc and crumpled paper are missing
2 - directs me to police where can not get him to direct Murphy to Garden House.

Since have been following WTs at these spots because of problems cannot find what I am failing to do.

Might this be the answer - I started game in Entertainment Mode and somewhere along the way I get a window saying I am now playing in Game Players Mode. So I switch back and am informed that from now on cannot change back to Game Mode. OK by me. But do not know if this has some affect on my problem of missing things.
Make sure you are looking in the right place for the "crumpled paper", and the "CD" (see screenshots below) If they are not there, then send me a saved game from cabin and I'll try to figure out what the problem may be. [email protected]

The switching from "Game Players Mode" to " Entertainment Mode" probably occurred when you used a saved game - It really shouldn't make a difference in this incident.

Ah ha Nilo I see I was looking in the wrong place for the crumpled paper - was searching around the stairs but do not recall the paper by the tree. Will look again. Defintely the disc was not in the drawer but while back in the cabin - will check just to make sure.

Back when I have some answers. Thanks for following my thread up to this point. On my last replay of the big three Tex Games. Has been fun though frustrating at times all along the way. Then plan to tackle the very early games of Tex - Mean Streets etc.
Well I checked that cabin and definitely neither paper nor disc are to be found. What am I doing wrong here?

Will send you saved game via email and may I pose another question around the Tex discs for your consideration?

Have been experiencing cracked discs of late a Tex disc being one of them. PC hardware techs are alerting me to the idea that older games do not fare well on the faster CDRom drives and it would be well to copy all my Tex games and use them when replaying since I may well do so to see how many endings I can come up with.

Do you have any opinion on this? One tech even alerted me to a utility to slow down the drive when I use older game discs if I understood him correctly. Since I am a novice at all of this not sure which direction to consider if any.

What have you Nilo or anyone else on this site experienced around the cracking of discs?
I've never experienced the Disc Cracking thing... Not with the Drive causing it anyway... Now a 4 year old, that's a different story for a different time... lol

I think your Drive is over heating the Disc and causing Pressure Cracks to occur... Try Remapping your Config File to your Other DVD-ROM and play from there until you get a New Drive...

That would be my suggestion, but by all means you can wait for a more qualified opinion... We just finally got you up and running, I don't want you messing with the Config File if you don't have to and then ending up not being able to play again...

Bafitis: Your idea is tempting but being a novice re deeper PC issues things like config files etc. and the registry are better left alone. I tend to tread where fools fear to go and so get into deeper trouble often

What I might do is copy a Tex game and see if I can play from it and save my purchased discs for the time being until I can learn more about this issue. My luck is not running good right now re discs - a friend in England just sent me a game and it came - neatly cracked in two pieces. :x

Also intend to send Nilo my last saved game re my missing inventory items, but I cannot locate his email address - it might be private so don't want to intrude. How can I get the saved game to him via this site?
That's why I cautioned you to doing it... Give Nilo a chance and see what he comes up with first...

If he agrees with my idea he can probably take you through the Config File changes step by step to insure that you do it error free... But let Nilo look at the saved game file and see what he has to say after that, let him be your guide... :D

Doing just as you suggest. Nilo emailed me and so sent him my last saved game. Will await his decision.

Is the saved game that you sent me a continuation of a saved game that you acquired from someone else? The reason I ask is because the “crumpled paper” and the “CD” are not there because they have already been taken! To prove this, travel to the cabin (from the same saved game that you sent to me) and go to the top of the stairs ((see screenshot below (which was taken from the saved game that you sent me)). You will notice that the door at the top of the stairs can be opened without entering the code into the keypad, which means that has already been done. And that would be impossible to do without first picking up the “crumpled paper” and the “CD”, because both are needed to get the code.
You mentioned that you are using two walkthroughs- that’s not a good idea- and that is why you are having these problems. Some items in your inventory may be missing if you jump from one walkthrough to another, because of the order in which they were taken. And, one walkthrough may be written for Gamers mode and the other for Entertainment mode, which can make a difference on some puzzles. So, you should use one or the other, but not both. Also, if you use another persons saved game, make sure it is from the same game mode as you are using.

I would strongly suggest that you start a new game instead of trying to figure out where you should go next.

I do agree with Bafitis - change to another drive if you believe the cracking problem is associated with the drive you are currently using. If you do change drives then be sure to reconfigure your Pandora config file. To do so, go to your C:\Pandora folder and open it. Now open the config file and scroll down to the [CD_MAP] and change the drive letter to correspond with the new one.
