Future of Tex (possibilities)

I can't help but feel everyone here over reacted. Passions are a bit over the top IMO, check your fire since we're all hitting friendlies here and that ain't good.. THIS AIN'T IRAQ PEOPLE! /end lame joke *jen ordered that*

In all seriousness there is no Elitism in this community so Bafitis stop thinking that is the case. Jen is getting very defensive since she's a personal friend of Aaron, Adrian and Chris so obviously she was going to be a bit pissed off at someone attacking her friends. Thats understandable and as I said watch what you are saying as they DO check the forums and anything that comes off as a insult to their credibility in any way it's going to be very embarrassing for you. They are all Video Game industry veterans and regardless of opinions we still need to show them respect. This community has an opportunity that just doesn't happen in this industry that I work in, that is actual COMMUNICATION with the developers. Aaron acknowledges the fans as a form of Share Holders if you will, we hold a large stake in the success of his franchise and its important to acknowledge this. My concern is that you are very new to this community and don't have all your facts straight at the moment, a lot of information can be gathered from merely reading this forum (Aaron has posted heaps of info - but also hopefully jame's site will come back up soon which has stacks upon stacks of info that will definitely provide the evidence needed to convince you that they are making excellent progress for the position they are in and that Aaron doesn't owe us any more because you only have to look at what he's done so far for us.)

Bafitis does make a good point when saying that he won't buy a game just because AC worked on it. Thats a very good point and similar to my thinking in that the work that has been done should surpass ALL reputation and instead be able to stand on its own two feat. This is actually important since Aaron now has to build a new reputation, because today's gaming population has no idea who Aaron even is :D its important that the product itself has a reputation in its individual right, and the franchise bares the reputation not of the companies that produce it but rather the type of qualities that should be expected in each product. Tex has its logo as a franchise identity - bring the logo back and it'll encourage the current population to say "wait? there are 5 more of these already?!" its the same with Final Fantasy and just look at how long that's lasted for and yet every single game is different and stands on its own reputation. (7 and 8 being the best IMO).

I just want to establish that there was no need what so ever for either parties to get pissed off, this was merely a case of mis-information. I've established an objective look at both arguments, I agree with both sides. However! Using the "I'm a N00b" excuse is pure bullshit in today's internet - No one should be exempt from being debated - thats why its called a forum not a playground. Forums are a place for DEBATE - you enter one, get ready to defend for your ideas if you put them out there. There is a way of doing it in a civilized fashion and I guess it comes down to the personality of the user - not the reputation of the avatar (aka your virtual identity on the forums).

Sadly I see this all too many times, I've been on both ends of the argument and ultimately I can see where everyone is coming from. I hope that stops a bit of hostility with you guys.

If not.. :(
Oh yeah, cyberpunk...well that was just stupid! All joking aside...I agree with you except for one thing. I would buy a game that AC has worked on, even if it wasn't anywhere near the same vein as Tex Murphy. Reason being is that I'm just a fan of the work I've already seen by him, so I would be already interested in checking out his other avenues of work. If at that point I didn't like it, then I would get as much out of it as I could from the local used game shop! lol

I'm not saying that I'm using the Newbie as an excuse... I admit that I'm new here and I also stated that I don't have time to go reading each and every thread on this board... So if I state something that is plainly incorrect, I just ask to be corrected...

But if I state an opinion there is no reason for people to treat me...well you get the idea...

Arguing and debating are all fine and good and I welcome a good debate or argument, after all it's how I make a living :) ...

I have no problem with a little hostility, but the poster should have the will power to leave it in the thread it started, not carry it around the board...
Just because people are enemies in one thread, doesn't mean they can't be friends in another...

What this all means to us is that we need to keep the Faith, Start a tel-a-thon and get enough monet to at least buy bakc the character "Tex Murphy." There chris could sell it to TV if not the movies for i think the adventures every week would be fun. Another "McGiver" on who Tex will get out of the new situations every week.

Dang the selling of the Murphy Games, but would love to see him on the big Screen. The question who would be zany and clever enough to be the Tex Murphy Chiis Jones is????
Tex -"Give him a Lucky Strike, a glass of Bourbon (neat), and a leggy dame and Tex is in his element."
That's pretty simple actually... CJ isn't over the hill or dead, so why can't he continue to play the part of the Legacy he began???

Didn't think Chris is over the hill, but witha new person, a new generation to Tex Murhy could be born. The more fans the better. Like James Bond we would not go back to Sean Connery, even though he was the best Bond. If Chris would love to di it the better for us older Tex Murphy fans...I just want to think of his replacement who would anyone want to see fill his shoes. Just a fun thought.
Tex -"Give him a Lucky Strike, a glass of Bourbon (neat), and a leggy dame and Tex is in his element."
That's the problem with characters such as this... You can't really fill his spot... It would never be the same...

In my opinion Tex Murphy only has a few more Prime Years left and then it will be impossible to rekindle it... CJ brought a Unique Personality to Tex Murphy... I don't care how good the actor is, I don't think it can be copied...
I can't even think of someone that could do it either... There aren't really any young actors on the screen today that have CJ's persona...

As for James Bond, it isn't nearly as popular as it was with Connery... Just look at how often they change the character now... They can't keep a James Bond longer than just a couple of films... Bronson did an Okay Job, but it's been down hill since Connery gave it up...

If he were taller...I would say Zach Braff from scrubs. He's actually a very good dramatic actor and could handle some of the more seriousness of the roles...and he's hilarious..however..I just don't think he could grow the facial hair. lol

*sigh* haven't you guys ever heard of COMPUTER GENERATED. You know Chris did a machinima right? I think if you got guys like Square Pictures (the guys behind the two Final Fantasy films) to do it then it'd be just as good as the real thing.
No, I'd rather Tex be Real, just like it has been... I don't think it would feel right if it was Like Beowulf or 300 or animated through computer generation... Just my opinion...

CG animation is an interesting thing, really. Since reading this board I've had all these butt-kicking ideas in my head for an amazing TRAILER of a CGI Tex Murphy game.

On the plus side, Tex would always look in his prime and Chris Jones could voice him well into his 80's or so (only a slight exaggeration). On the downside, it would look painfully unrealistic and yeah, a lot of die-hards (such as myself) would as soon gouge our own eyes out with the corner of the Under A Killing Moon box than see a 3D Animated Tex for too long.

Though Tex's future is painfully shrouded from even his creators, there's sooo much possibility in it. I'd love the whole nine yards - Books, Radio Dramas, Movies and even a new game. WHO DO I HAVE TO KILL?!

Sorry if all this has already been said a billion times. i just noticed my account got activated moments ago and came rushing in with to comment on the conversation that was here a month ago when i first found the site. :D

Right now is actually a pretty decent time to bring Tex back and take advantage of the current market. A properly made Tex Murphy game would sell in bunches.

If AC and CJ want to try for it I could probably help them get it done. The rights to Tex are currently owned by 2K. 2K would be interested if the pitch was right.

You sure about that???

The trail of companies being sold and this company leaving that company and whatnot, seem to have put the Rights at Take 2 Games...

I'm pretty sure Take 2 owns 2K. Still right now is a ripe time for the correct pitch.
