Once upon a time there was a chat.....

I am pretty sure the address was mentioned a few times. And yes, is was that location that you mentioned (http://www.groups.msn.com/texmurphy)

After this somewhat disaterous attempt at a group chat, I have gone into the MSN community settings and allowed full public access to all the websites features wiiithout the need for sign-up. The reason why this option was set to only allow members access was becuase the website was being bombarded with inappropriate content (from third parties), and thus I had to find some way of keeping it moderated. I was under the assumption that the membership ragistration was, however, a swift process, but obviously (as you stated) it has not worked out as planned.

Anyway, all non members if you could try and access the site now are you able to tell me if you now have free reign to all the features?

Next time we have a Tex chat, we will probably use the same location as is seems to be the most user friendly of the 'chat' servers we have at our disposal (when it works according to plan, that is)... but I will also set up a chat server on my own website as a backup (the same chat system we used for the most recent Aaron Conners group chat).

Like I said, if people just want to try http://www.groups.msn.com/texmurphy and see if they can get access now?

Many thanks,

-Cub. =o)

Edit > I am pretty sure there is still a sign-up process involved with joining the community, but it should no longer have to go through a confirmation process.

EDIT > OH MY GOD! I go into my Hotmail account and what do I find in my bloomin' JUNK EMAIL section:

APPROVAL NEEDED: KiavncAvci1 applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group
APPROVAL NEEDED: brin51 applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group
APPROVAL NEEDED: rjspring applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group
APPROVAL NEEDED: extramalt applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group
APPROVAL NEEDED: DrPaul1951 applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group
APPROVAL NEEDED: GarySogar1 applied to join Tex Murphy, an MSN Group

WHY MSN! WHY MY JUNK EMAIL FOLDER! I personally never read a junk e-mail folder, let alone rarely use my Hotmail Account.

I have now approved the above mentioned members... so we know know we can pin this debarkle on human error. My human error!

I am so sorry guys, I feel like I have really let everyone down! :(
Yup! Right place, Doc.

I just tried signing in again (Monday morning) and it worked.

The reason that I mentioned all the gory details of problems getting into the chat was sort of for AC and CJ's benefit:

There's nothing as disappointing as throwing a party and nobody comes. I wanted it to be clear to our guests of honor that we didn't just forget, but that desperate attempts were made by us to join, but we were just unable to breach security.
Its not actually Cub's fault, its really mine....

I as the orginial creator of the MSN community still have approval abilities and I should have went in and did that. I totaly forgot to look in that area to see if people were still wanting to join.

To everyone who wanted to join but couldnt I am sorry.

Another reason why we did a approval only was because during our first chats we had some people come to the party who wanted to hijack the chat to their own devices. (flame war over politics) These folks werent Tex fans and they in fact had never even heard of Tex. They were just looking for a place to start an argument.
Good point, McD. In fact, the very first chat I can recall had a little kid named Mikey whose sole purpose of visiting the boards and chat was to disrupt them. He used foul language, called people names and was just an all-around pest. Finally he was barred. Also, Dragon knew who he was and threatened to tell his mom; haven't seen him since (thank the maker!).

So then, while I am sorry some couldn't join at least I empathize with your decision to place restrictions on those attending.

Ah yes... "Mikey." Such fond memories... *ahem...*
OMG! I'm another one who missed it. For once I fogot my Dell Axim when I was out, so I didn't get my reminder. Later in the day, I picked up the Axim, and saw the reminder on the screen and went, "Aw s$&!, I forgot the chat." I will try to do better next time. Just to be sure, I just tried the Chat Room on MSN and I was able to get in.
