Talent for a fan-made Tex Murphy game?

I find it odd that no one has ever (to my knowledge) attempted a Tex Murphy fan-made game. Well, apart from one forum member here and a certain P.I. office. ;) It's obvious that there's a lot of talent on these boards, be it programming/scripting, graphics, sound, music or creative writing.

So do you think it'd be possible to put together a team of people willing to try a new Tex game? It's a notion that has interested me for a while.

Really all that's needed are people doing the story, graphics, sound, music and scripting. There are plenty of good adventure game creation tools out there.
Rather than embark on such a committing journey, which has proven to be deterring to many a person, how about making a few short, simple Tex Murphy tribute games which are casual games fun in them selves, like IE a simple 2d TM sidescroller, or... well, anyone can come up with suggestions for something like this, and I think it'd be loads of fun without the pressures of comparison :D

Well, hey. It could just as well be a 2D point-and-click adventure game. Even short ones, possibly in episodic format? :D It's not that much work if you've got a few people who can do animating, etc. That is, the stuff that I don't do well (I'm more technically inclined). Voice-acting is entirely optional, preferred, but probably out of our league.

It'd be perfect if somebody had a good story or some ideas. I'm sure something could get off the ground. Playing around with Adventure Game Studio, graphics are my biggest problem. I'm just not good with that, but scripting, I'm sure I could do that well.
I have played around a little in the AGS engine. Other than that though, I guess my biggest strength (could you call it that) is really writing.

Do we have a volunteer? :D I would really like trying something like this. You know, being creative and pretend to be game designers. ;) I'm not sure I'd be a good Project Manager, but someone would have to be the glue.

Who's good with graphics?
This whole next year of my grad-program is dedicated to developing a completely original computer game using any means I deem necessary - and I have an extremely talented group of game-designers with various expertise's, including myself, at my fingertips. Only thing is though, I'd have to convince them that Tex Murphy is the way to go - right now we're looking at other types of stories, but what does everybody think?

Only thing we really need is, oddly enough, a writer :D

Let me know if my services are required. As a writer, that is.

I've been trying to get a TM interactive fiction game going for a long time. The programming is easy. But what really makes Tex Murphy great is the writing. And therein lies the rub.

The writing is oh so important and all the programming skills in the world still come up short without good writing and a good story.
Hey, I just noticed I'm two posts away from 400.

Couldn't agree with you more, Doc ~

Speaking of writing, I actually started a Tex fanfic about three or four years ago. I'm only maybe eight typed pages into it though. Assuming we could get a group of folks on here that would be interested in coming up with a story (and assuming we could all agree on something) I would be willing to take part in that.

We have got some awesome programming talent on this board; something which I have no knowledge of.

I know that we have also discussed this before, but have put it off because of new news from the Access boys, which we definitely are going to honor. So I guess that would leave me curious as to what we could actually do at this time if we did put our heads together...

I'm down for programming in Flash a sidescroller or something in that ball park and perhaps some of the content as well, though we'd definately need to have a proper meeting...so...where does that place us?

I've got the intelligence of a ninth grade drop out when it comes to the technical side of things, but I was told once that I have a very good voice for voice acting. Perhaps if somebody sets something up, I could lend you the little bit of talent I do have. (I usually sell myself short on a lot of things, but I'm confident on my voice acting ability. All I need is a script.)

At least I keep everybody laughing at work with my voices, anyhow. I've been compared with Robin Williams, but don't claim to be *as* good.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Same here, Malloy. Everyone accuses me of underplaying my strengths, but one that I trust my friends on is my alleged voice acting capabilities. I can do practically every one of the non-Sesame Street Muppets, plus a few of my own, non-cartoony, voices/accents. So if any voices are required, let me know.
