Gentlemen...cool your jets

In his defense - he IS right. There are enough crazy, hurt, fanatical or otherwise determined women in the world to threaten the male part of the species should we become superfluous. But I agree with you partly Jen - the THOUGHT *IS* mean.

In my own defense (Chewbacca defense?) I'll say that I know it would go both ways. We should thank our lucky stars for being so dependant on one another between the sexes. Humankind have enough excuses for self-destruction as it is. We don't need more.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Where was Jen's outrage at statements like:

"Imagine man put next to a woman. It is similar to putting a tricycle next to a space shuttle, a simple design next to an infinitely complex construction."

"If this *were* to happen, I can envision this happening. The females, with all that power have no more use for the males, and a gender war is set off ... and from that point forward all males that are born, are born into slavery. "

Do I detect a double standard here?

But yes. I think if women lost their fertility or if technology could take over their role, I would fear for them. And if you don't think that women's role in the birth process has anything to do with how men treat women, well....I won't say it.
I would also like to point out that Dr. Paul did not endorse the sentiment expressed in his post as evidenced by what followed:
I don't think I would like that world much either.

There are many, many good reasons why God gave us *two* sexes. A world with only women or a world with only men would both suck.
In fact, Dr. Paul was expressing his fear for women's saftey if such a situation arose. It's interesting that we heard not a word of protest or concern from Jen when the topic was the extermination or enslavement of men.
DrPaul wrote: It's interesting that we heard not a word of protest or concern from Jen when the topic was the extermination or enslavement of men.
Not only is the idea absolutely preposterous, but it was mentioned only in jest by the very gender who proposed the thought.

extermination or enslavement ? Not really an agenda that history has shown women to have.

I have never to my knowledge man-bashed on this board. Nor do I wish too. I single-handedly raised a wonderfully caring and thoughtful son, and have relationships with men that I deeply treasure to this VERY day.

HOWEVER, I will always defend women-kind, and the battles they fought and overcame for the rights that I currently possess. Anyone well informed in the cultures of the world and history knows much about what I'm talking about. But I'm not posting to discuss cultural studies, or any sort of discrimination through the ages.

I'm posting about YOU, Dr.Paul. And the fact that I am sick and tired of your bullying attitude towards me, and your off handed comments that I feel are incredibly hurtful.

"If it weren't for sex, there'd be a bounty on 'em."

Although we each undoubtably know some cold-blooded woman who qualifies as a reptile, most women are too sophisticated for this primative form of reproduction.
The ones that do, you don't want anything to do with, anyway.

And if you don't think that women's role in the birth process has anything to do with how men treat women, well....I won't say it."

This last comment smacks dangerously close to your fembot discussion. Whether you agree to these thoughts or no, (and I know where my opinion on this matter lies) these words were put to writ by YOU, in a forum where everyone else can read them.

I know absolutely that you will want to post ...What? Me? You will deny saying anything wrong, or bring up free speech, censorship or any number of arguments that you can think of to justify your hurtful behavior.

I'm really fed up in the manner of which you treat me.
I care about this board, and treasure the relationships I've gleaned from this community more than you will ever know. And I've backed up my affections with private and public words and actions.

But I won't be private a moment more about you baiting me, and your often unrespectful comments towards women.

I am a part of this board, and I will not continue to be made to feel unwelcome by you. Keep your negative comments about women to yourself or on a forum more appropriate.

In case sometime in the future someone posts something that might offend me, I would like to say that I hold in contest anything that anyone else might find as potentially offensive to them, as also offensive to me. Seriously, you're essentially saying "You better cover all your bases on every topic, because if someone says something that offends you, you'll be a hypocrite if you don't state that anything said earlier was or wasn't offensive to you."

To summarize, I take both offense and agree with any and all opinions of this fine establishment. I wish everyone to have a puppy dog, unless puppies are somehow offensive, and for everyone to start everyday with a big bowl of sunshine, providing it/he/she has no ill-effects from the exposure to said said sunlight.

With liberty and justice for all. Wait, that doesn't apply here, unless of course you think it does, then I agree, or disagree if you, in fact, think it does apply.

Now wait just a minute here Miss Pot-Calling-The-Kettle-Black. I posted not one word directed at you until YOU posted a very unkind comment personally toward me.

To use your words, I am really fed up with the manner in which you treat me. You want to bully me and everybody else into a fantasy world in which it is illegal to even suggest that any woman at any time could ever have any fault or shortcoming. This is not realistic nor practical.

There exist both men and women who possess character flaws in this world. That, by no means implies that all men or all women share those flaws. To use your words again, Anyone well informed in the cultures of the world and history knows what I'm talking about.
I single-handedly raised a wonderfully caring and thoughtful son, and have relationships with men that I deeply treasure to this VERY day.
Ok. If this is some kind of qualification test, I, DrPaul, have raised a wonderfully caring, thoughtful and multi-talented daughter, not single-handedly, but along with and by remaining true to my wife for 36 years and I also enjoy many close relationships with other women. In fact, when my daughter was born, I quit a promising carreer to be a stay-at-home Dad and was the only guy participating in a New-Mom's Group which was sponsored by our hospital. Although I have resumed my carreer, I still remain close with the other moms 16 years later. Oh, and even my dog, Daisy, is a female.

So perhaps we are more alike than you would like to think. The big difference between us is that, although I am a guy, I do not dogmatically defend every other guy in the world, nor do I take it as a personal afront if someone is so bold as to suggest that there are some flawed men in the world. But when someone choses to stereotype ALL men, then I may say something in their defense. But I would not attempt to silence the offender. I would engage him/her in a logical debate.

Absolutely NONE of my comments regarding women were ever directed at all women.
I think if women lost their fertility or if technology could take over their role.....

This last comment smacks dangerously close to your fembot discussion.
No. This last comment is an obvious extrapolation by anyone familiar with the historical trends of technology and modern culture. It appeared in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" 80 years ago. As a scientist, I think it is much more likely than spontaneous asexual reproduction in humans. I also think that, if it comes to pass, it will have a chilling and dangerous affect on society in general and on women in particular. It would first be presented as a technology to free women from the bonds of childbirth. But the ultimate and unintended consequences of such a technology would be to eventually topple women from the pedestal that men have kept them on for millennia. This would be a very bad thing for women.

But you see, you don't care to discuss these things amicably. You want to silence any discussion that doesn't paint a rosy picture (of women.) Believe me, if you don't engage in the discussion, these things will bite you in the back. If you don't agree with somebody, take issue. But indicate *why* you don't agree. Don't just say "I don't like that. Stop talking."

I don't know why we can't be friends or discuss anything that has to do with women. For some reason, you think I have animosity toward women.

This reminds me of a quote, I don't know who it's by, but it goes,
"You like someone because. You love someone although."
In this context, although I recognize that women have flaws, I love them. You seem to think that if women aren't flawless, they are unlovable. Between those two perspectives, which shows more love?

DrPaul out, for now.

Great job. What started out as a light hearted discussion of a Komodo dragon reproducing asexually and the future of mankind has turned a mutual non-admiration society.
I've checked every box. There's no socks in my stocks.
I think you both need to go to your corners and as the title of the thread said, Cool your jets.
Ok. So what do you say Jen? Shake hands and come out smiling?

Places a tentative hand out.

Sure.
Gee whiz! I think I'm sorry for starting this thread. It was supposed to be a joke merely based on a true event. Perhaps we should shift gears. Hey! How about the Bears vs. the Colts next Sunday night? Any prognostications?
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Hey, Jim. Can't you see we're trying to shake hands here?
Man!

(...shakes offered hand warmly,
thinks about kneeling to kiss hand
decides respectful bow more appropriate.)
The Colts are so gonna wail on the Bears. At least I hope so.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
Sorry, Doc.

Bears by 6. I want the Colts to win but those pesky bears always seem to find a way to win.

Just reading this thread, I learnt one thing...

If you tell a girl to "go f**k yourself", it might actually be possible.
