Tex Murphy Overseer on XP Guide

Back with Overseer on XP. Most of the information is this guide is gleaned from these boards, I just wanted to put it in one place.

***Actually, to that end, if I've referenced a tip from a user here that I didn't credit, please let me know!*** There's a lot of good info here.

Just an update, I now have guides for all 3 games on my blog. As well, as a little Gravis Ultrasound in DOSBox guide.

Check 'em out.

Nice, but as I already wrote in response to your last thread:
Why do you make the things so overly and unnecessary complicated with the creation and configuration of all the iso files, when you can just use one of my HD/DVD installers?
I've just followed these guides to install The Pandora Directive and it works fabulously. But what of these HD/DVD installers? It's nice to know exactly how one can configure DOSBox to mount the separate ISO's, but I would be interested in hearing about these others ways of how you managed to automate this process. A nice idea would be the creation of a DVD from which the game can be run without issues (although I can imagine that the saving of games may pose a problem).
The hd/dvd installer is designed to work with dos box. downlaod the file & it will ask you for each cd disk, it blends all the files together & then you burn it to a dvd disk.

Install the dvd & use the full install option, mount the dvd in dos box or mount the dvd image & thats it, Perfect with xp.
Actually, I think I prefer the other way. I now have everything in one folder, running on HD with tweaked DOSBox configuration files. I can burn the entire folder to DVD and play directly from DVD, if I want. Great for archiving, too, no fuss with configuring DOSBox.
If you just copied the files to the hard drive with wintermute's program you will probably find on disk 4 when you view objects the game will freeze. Some of the forum members have posted that when copying to the hard drive you just keep the biggest file when you copy the same file name. It also causes problems also at the evidence room at autotech.

Wintermute has combined the structures correctly & binded the dos to 32 (not sure of the correct name)
my previous post might confuse some, I meant that you can have problems without wintermute's program. I see that when you mentioned on the hard disk you were probably refering to fourth law version with iso images & dos box.

I actually thought at first you had just copied the files from the disk.

I have not tried this version since wintermute's program . I used to just have my image files on a dvd disk & mount them straight from the dvd with virtual drive program.

I have a 98 machine just for my old games, & boot to full dos but I cannot set up my multiple virtual drives under dos. I get problems with Wintermutes dos structures under full dos.
You are right, I used the procedure from fourthlaw, so I have six ISO images that get mounted by DOSBox. This is automatic from the DOSBox config files and it mounts them all at the same time, and it is seemless. I bet that the two methods are pretty similar in result. In any case, Pandora Directive executes and functions just like any other Windows XP game now, one couldn't tell the difference (except for a console that flashes by for a fraction of second, but is closed upon exit). :D
I made a DVD of Pandora Directive a long time ago but never played it until now. I am having the problem with it asking for DISK #4 when trying to view items at Roswell. I could resort to the old disk swapping, but is there an easy way to fix this? I burned it to a DVD-RW, so I hope I don't have to reburn everything, and I am not sure how to avoid this. Can you give a more detailed explanation of the problem and the solution?

Dr. David
how did you make the dvd, did you use the wintermute's hd installer. If so & you are playing from the dvd disk that problem I also found so I used the full install & everything was okay.
