Looks like there will be more Tex

Adian Carr kind of confirmed there will be an ultimate Tex Murphy game! Awesome news of course, though I hope it is the penultimate :) It surprise me how critic he is with the previous games. He also said they know the errors of Tesla and that they will be corrected.

Now I love Tesla effect, for me is the second one after Pandora, the only problem I had was that it was too easy, the puzzles didn't last more than 10 minutes each. As Adrian said, the pace was too fast, giving less time to wander around. If they improve this, we may be talking of the best adventure game ever (that's what this fan things anyway).
:)

Now, this is interestsing news to catch. I sure would love to see the interview or article that quoted him. Unless this is word of mouth?

He told it in a live chat hosted by Mat on gog.com, but I don't know if it is available now. More Tex fans must have seen it! Where are you?
I'm wondering how it is that there was no announcement of the live chat on this board and the BFG board....
You can Watch the stream here :D http://www.twitch.tv/gogcom/v/6106158
Ruben, yep, that was the live play by MatCat that I couldn't watch or participate in the live chat, (dammit!) because my old mac tower and internet speed couldn't handle it. I was about as substantial on it as a ghost trying to body slam the wall, so I had to give up. I revived the mac after crashing three times and had to cry uncle.

Well, next time (if there is a next time), do say a little hello to Carr from me, the E'ville Hoosier.

I certainly didn't think the puzzles were too easy.

But, I think he may have something there when it comes to the "pace" of the game being too fast.

It seemed like too much of the plot was being advanced in the non-interactive cut scenes.
Almost as if the story was simply too big for the game.

Pandora's pacing was simply superb. It started small and then slowly became bigger and faster once you got deeper into it.
I'm hoping for more Tex- just like everyone else.

But I think Adrian's words are getting taken out of context here.

He said something sort of like: "we set out to make one game with the Kickstarter money, and Chris J said 'Guys, we're making two'"

I think the correct interpretation here is- Tesla Effect was twice as big as originally planned.

That's what we've heard consistently from everyone involved with production.

Other than that- we know that there is mutual interest from BFG and the fans for more Tex games. Unfortunately, "interest" is not all it takes. It also takes One Million bucks.

I'm pretty sure Adrian and everyone else is geared up for more Tex- it's just waiting on it to make business sense.

So... everyone go buy another copy of Tesla Effect.
Gur, Gur bëhet mur.
For me, the biggest issue is that a million bucks is just not enough. As Adrian said on MatCat Plays, people worked like dogs on Tesla for peanuts. I suspect what he meant is that they put in a lot of extra hours on their own; they did it for the love of Tex.

To really make a game like Tex, and do it complete right, I suspect it requires 2 to 3 million dollars.

yes chandler is right, everyone worked for peanuts & visiting backers worked for free.
No mention really of another game we all just hope for another. we will see what happens after the fan remake of overseer.

tex murphy is back in town
I based my estimate on the following:
  • 10 people working on a game
Average annual salary of $80,000US (anything less just won't get you the best people IMHO
2 years to produce the game
    $150,000 for computer gear
$250,000 for specialty gear like cameras, motion capture, sets, etc.
    $250,000 for actors, extras, etc.
    $250,000 for advertising/promotion
That makes a total of $2.5 million. More programmers, artists, etc. will raise the salary and equipment costs. I also think it's a really good idea to pay for a specialist from the company that makes whatever game engine is being used to consult on the project, which would raise the cost again.

As far as Poisoned Pawn goes, if it turns out really well, I think it should be sold for profit by BFG and the proceeds used to make another Tex game. At that point, I think the people who developed Poisoned Pawn should receive some compensation and those of the them that want to should be brought on to the team for the next game, for full compensation of course. After all, they will have proven their metal and dedication.
80.000$!! That's a lot of peanuts :) But I agree. If there's going to be a final game, I hope it's the best of the series, and that needs money. I wouldn't mind another kickstarter, or any other way to raise money. Lets hope Poisoned Pawn helps getting some.
$80K is not all that much these days. Clerks and receptionists often make $25K to $30K. Nurses make more than $80K. Making a top notch video game requires significant talent and skills. People with those skills don't come cheap, nor should they.

Now, I admit, I'm speaking from a North American perspective. Salaries may be different in Spain, or elsewhere. Nevertheless, video game makers need to be well paid in order to produce games of the highest quality.
"Poisoned Pawn" was never be planed to make some profit and we, the developers wouldn't get any. But from the perspective that it could help to finance, at least a small part for another Tex game, it might be a good way. And yes, i think if it will turn out good, most of our members would be willing to help to do another one. Therefore a Pandora remake had to wait :D
I know I haven't said much, mostly because I wouldn't have much meaningful to add to the equation. Your project's minutia isn't something I could successfully read. Like a bird watcher trying to attain skills by reading "brain surgery for dummies".

Anyways, whatever you guys do to improve the game's library staying power in anyone's operating platform would be highly appreciated. So far it's been fascinating to see the improvements already made!

As for another Tex game, if it were to happen: Yeah!!! If not: well, ok. I heard there will be some radio theater coming. Is that still happening?

On a side note, I and my husband had a fun little idea (Tex-related) that I wanted to develop and send to Steve. We haven't had time to make it happen yet, butmaybe beforer summer is up we will get around to it.
