Can someone give me a brief explanation of what the heck THAT is all about?!
My family went to a local classic car show(summer nonprofit fundraiser), and we all were supposed to drop ice water on the show volunteers. Sure, I threw it. But I had no idea what it's all about except to maybe cool them off since it's August.
Who started this? What moron thought it'd be a really impressive thing to do? Personally, I myself have plunged into freezing water on a bet, but hell, I got paid. As a mere challenge? Nope, I'm a creature of comfort mostly. If I want to have a "challenge", it'll be of the adjust the hottub water temp kind.
To be honest, I'm still scratching my head over the short, chubby Asian guy who created some sort of dance craze that I've only heard about.

One Mean, Green-Eyed Fitch.
Sure thing.
The point of the ice bucket challenge is to raise awareness for the disease ALS.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
It all started when someone with the disease challenged their friend to do it or donate money to the charity. It got to be a hit and everybody started doing it.
The challenge consists of this.
1. You can choose to dump the bucket of ice water on your head and give $10 to the charity or you can just skip the challenge and donate $100 to the charity.
2. If you do the challenge, you can then nominate 3 friends to do the challenge. They usually have 24 hours to complete the challenge or donate the money.
Of course there is nobody enforcing any rules. It's mostly for fun and to get people talking about the disease and giving it more exposure in the media. Celebrities have started doing it as well.
It's a fun little thing to do that's not too hard and doesn't send people to the hospital.

Thanks Samantha!
Lou Gehrig's I get. I follow an economic blog called Mish Global Econ Blogspot run by a fellow named Mike Shedlock. His (fairly recently) deceased wife died from this, and to a small extent, he explain and outlined her difficulties and how they dealt with it. It's a very sad and depressing disease to have to suffer from because there isn't much that can be done to stave off death from it.

Have you watched many of them? All kinds of different containers have been used in the challenge.Joel wrote:That doesn't count!jimrh1969 wrote:Mat's (Cubebase) Turn ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IAHOPA ... e=youtu.be
