| Tex flies to Alcatraz
Island to find the Overlord computer and disable the system. When
he lands his speeder, though, he is immediately zapped and he blacks
out. When he comes to, he's locked inside one of the cells inside
Alcatraz. Welcome to The Rock. |
 |
 |
If we're going to stop
Gideon from using Overlord, we've got to get out of this cell first.
The bars are as strong as they've ever been, but the brick walls are
another story. Behind the bed in this cell, the bricks have come loose.
Move the bed to get at the loose bricks. |
 |
 |
Move the bricks to get
a closer view. Tex has to move the bricks so that he makes a perfectly
square hole to crawl through. Otherwise, the wall could become unstable
and collapse on him as he tries to crawl though. |
 |
 |
Once you have created
a square hole, Tex will automatically crawl through to the next cell. |
 |
Now to find a way out
of here. There's a shelf just outside the cell and to the left with
some items on it. Look at the shelf, and Tex will note what the items
are, including a laser torch. That could come in very handy
for cutting... say... prison bars. The shelf is out of reach, but
there's a tarp below it on the walkway. If we could get the items
on that tarp, then drag the tarp closer, we could get the torch. |
 |
 |
First things first. There
is one brick left over from the wall Tex crawled through. Pick it
up. |
 |
 |
Use the brick on the shelf.
Tex will toss the brick and knock the shelf over, spilling the contents
onto the tarp. |
| |
 |
 |
 |
Now we need some way
to drag that tarp over so we can grab the items on it. There's a chain
holding one end of the bed in this cell to the wall, and the chain's
got a hook on the end. Detach the chain from the bed. |
 |
 |
Use the chain on the tarp,
and Tex will drag the tarp closer to the cell. |
 |
Get the items -- a laser
torch and a roll of electrical tape -- from the tarp. |
 |
 |
 |
Use the laser torch on
the bars of the cell, and Tex will cut through and jump down to the
ground floor of the cell block. |
 |
 |
Once on the ground floor, go into
the open cell to the left. Remember, there are security droids patrolling
this area, but they won't zap you if you're in a cell.
In this cell, hanging on the wall,
is a roll of barbed wire. Get and examine it. Tex will uncoil
the wire.
|
 |
 |
Wait in this cell until
the security droid passes from left to right. When it does, wait a
couple seconds, then leave the cell and follow the droid -- at a safe
distance. Veer off and go to the gates to the next cell block. |
 |
The gates are locked,
and the key is on the floor on the other side of the gate. Use the
uncoiled barbed wire to get the key, then use the key on the gates
to unlock them and enter Cell Block B. |
 |
 |
In Cell Block B, turn
left and open the next gate, and go through to the visitors station. |
 |
In the corner of the
room is an overturned chair. Move the chair to find a gas mask. Pick
up the mask. |
 |
 |
Go through the gate at
the far end of the visitors station, and turn right. On the other
side of this gate is a passcard, but the gate's locked. Use the Cell
Block B key to open the gate and get the card. |
 |
 |
Go to the double gates
that lead to Cell Block C, open them, and go through. |
 |
When you
enter Cell Block C, the security droid is coming down the corridor
directly at you. Duck off to the left, and hide near the door to Cell
Block D. Wait for the droid to reach the end of the corridor, turn
around and go back the way it came. Follow it down the hall, but keep
your distance. |
 |
Work your way down the corridor,
hiding in open cells if need be, until you reach the open cell across
from the large, red graffiti that reads "Leave Us Alone!"
The view from this cell should look similar to the view to the right.
In this cell is a key to Cell Block
D, hanging on the wall. Get it.
Also, from this cell, if you peek
out down the corridor to the right, you can see orange gas canisters
bolted to the wall along the ceiling. Keep this in mind for later.
|
 |
 |
 |
Listen and wait for the
droid. When you think it's safe, work your way back down the corridor
to the door to Cell Block D. Use the Cell Block D key on the door,
and go through. |
 |
In Cell Block D, the
seventh cell contains several old boxes. It doesn't look like much,
but it might be worth checking out. The gate's closed, but the gate
control box is right next to the Cell Block D door. Go back to the
Cell Block door, and find the panel just to the right. |
 |
 |
Open the panel and look
at it. There are a couple of what appear to be algebra equations written
on the panel door: "e+o=2" and "o-e=8." The "e"
must stand for even numbered cells, and the "o" for odd
numbered cells. Two of the door control switches are broken, so it
looks like only the bottom row of cells can be opened, which is fortunate,
'cause that's where the cell is that we want opened. But to open the
cell, it looks like we'll have to figure out those equations. Oh...goody...
Move the panel to get a closer view. |
 |
To solve the equations, first you
must figure out the value of one of the letters. Take "e"
for example:
First start out with the two equations:
Now, for each equation, find the
value of e:
So, if e=2-o and o-8, then:
Now, you must find the value of o:
2 times what equals 10? Right...5.
So o=5. Plug that fact back into one of the original equations,
say e+o=2:
So, e=-3 and o=5. That means that
if you select an odd number on the panel, that cell +5 will open.
For example: Select cell 3 and cell 8 will open. For even cells,
the cell you select -3 will open. For example: Select cell 6 and
cell 3 will open.
We want cell seven to open, so we
need to select cell 10. Move the lever to 10, then return to cell
7.
|
 |
 |
On the floor of the cell
is a box marked "Explosive." Open the box, and get the timer
and detonator inside. |
 |
 |
Now, leave the cell and
go down the stairs in the middle of the Cell Block. Open the door
at the bottom and go through. |
 |
Man, what's that smell?!
Smells like it's coming from behind that door in the wall just to
the right. Phew, man! I guess we should go in and take a look, but
hold your breath! Ugh! Open the door, and enter the garbage hold. |
 |
 |
Get the plastic bag that's
lying on the floor. Examine it to get a dirty air filter. Just what
you always wanted, right?! |
 |
 |
 |
Leave the garbage hold,
and continue down the hall. Take the first left, and enter the "strangely
ominous" room at the end of the hall. |
 |
Oh Hell!! A droid! Run!
No, wait. This droid looks deceased, and he seems to have dropped
something on the floor. Get the small item from the floor. I wonder
what this does. |
 |
 |
Leave to room, go back
down the hall, and continue on to the right until you reach the hall
with a series of large fans lining the wall. On the first fan, notice
the small, blinking light that sys "Dirty." Look at the
first fan. Tex will note that there seems to be something wrong with
it, and a plucky little maintenance droid will come change the air
filter. |
 |
 |
The droid
takes the air filter down the hall. Let's see where he takes it, shall
we. Continue down the hall...oh heck...STOP! There's a guard posted
at the end of the hall. If he sees us, we're toast. Don't go past
those first crates. Instead, move the crates, and go behind them.
Hmm...how could be get rid of the guard? There's nothing we could
really do to cause him to leave the guard station, but maybe we could
get past him some other way. |
 |
Remember what Tex said
when you looked at those orange canisters in Cell Block C? Maybe we
could use one of those on the guard somehow. But he also said he'd
need a screwdriver to get the canister off the wall. Stand up just
enough so that you can see the tops of the crates you're hiding behind.
Move to the crate nearest the far wall, and on top, low and behold,
is a screwdriver. Get it, and go back to Cell Block C. |
 |
 |
Work your way back down
to the other end of the corridor. When it's safe, use the screwdriver
on the orange canister, and Tex will take it down off the wall. |
 |
 |
Work your way back to
the Cell Block D door. Open it and go through, then go back down the
stairs to the Dungeon. |
 |
The only thing that's
going to get past the guard is a droid, and the only way to get a
droid to go past the guard is to have it change an air filter. So
how do we get a droid to take a canister of gas along and open it
when it gets near the guard? Simple. We trick the droid. |
 |
In your inventory, combine
the gas canister and the explosive. |
 |
 |
Then, combine the gas
and the explosive with the electrical tape, to create a gas bomb. |
 |
 |
Finally, combine the
gas bomb with the dirty air filter. |
 |
 |
Open the first air filter unit's cover
with the tool you found next to the broken droid. |
 |
Use the filter-bomb on the open filter
unit...and watch as our plucky friend comes to change the filter... |

 |
With the guard out of
the way, we can pass right on by. But what would be the fun in that?
Let's snoop around his desk first. The only thing of note is a very
fancy-looking hair brush. It's way too fancy to have once belonged
to an inmate, or to a security guard, so it must belong to Gideon.
Get the brush and examine it. |
 |
 |
Tex will find some of
Gideon's hair in the brush. Maybe Gideon should join the Hair Club
For Men, from the looks of it. |
 |
We could
go on, but there's a second set of doors impeding our progress. Since
we found that Gideon Enterprises security card, though,we might be
able to get through. Use the card on the scanner next to the doors.
They'll slide open. Go through, and continue down the hall. |
 |
Oh, great. At the end
of the hall is DNA scanner. It only allows access to someone who's
DNA is on file, which doesn't include Tex...but it would include
Gideon. And we have some of his hair. Hair contains DNA! Use Gideon's
hair on the DNA scanner, and watch as Tex discovers the Overlord main
computer. |
