Tex's Office

Turn on the ringing vid-phone, and get another call from the mysterious informant.

The informant asks if Tex found the chess move. Tex says he did, and that he's ready to meet with the informant any time. The informant says it isn't safe yet, though, and instead gives Tex another job: "Find out about Greg Call." He says Greg Call was the lead programmer on the STG project, and that if Tex finds his secret base of operations, all his questions will be answered.

When Tex asks how he's supposed to find Call, the informant tells him that the police were warned that Call might turn up dead, and that they might have more information. Then, looking around himself nervously, the informant ends the call.

Tex automatically travels to the S.F.P.D.

S.F.P.D./Eve Clements

Mention the hitman

Ask Detective Clements about Greg Call. She'll tell you that the police would have ruled his death to be natural causes, but that they received an anonymous tip through 911 the day before Call died. The tipster said that if Call turned up dead, to perform an autopsy. Ask about Call's autopsy, and Clements will say that it didn't turn up anything unusual except a small plastic capsule under Call's skin. Inside the capsule was a tag with markings on it. Clements gives the tag to Tex.

Before you leave, ask Eve about Rona Morgan and Val Davis, to get a little background on their deaths, then travel back to Tex's office.

Tex's Office

Examine the tag Clements gave you. That's Greek to me. Actually, no, that's Braille to me.
Wonder where we could find something to decode Braille. Maybe whoever's behind Call's death knew more about him. My best guess is that whoever's responsible for Call's death is the same someone currently occupying that abandoned Fresno office. Travel there.

Fresno Office

Well, nobody's here, but there's a UPEX package in front of the door. Guess they're still receiving mail...whoever "they" are. Get the UPEX package.
Examine the UPEX package. Inside is a note and what appears to be...no, are you kidding? A Braille alphabet!

Examine the note. "Murphy has been introduced to the 'Overseer' (P333)." He has? What the heck is the "Overseer?"

The next paragraph has some information on Call. He used two codes, the note says. A Braille alphabet, which we already knew, and something about the third or fourth word in a message.

Right now, though, we need to decode Call's tag. Combine the tag with the Braille alphabet. Examine the combination to decode the tag.

Using the Braille alphabet as a reference, decode Call's tag. You'll come up with the word "NEXUS." We need to know what NEXUS is, don't you think?

Who would know, though? Since STG was a subsidiary of Gideon Enterprises, and Greg Call was the head of the STG project, maybe J. Saint Gideon might know more about Call. Maybe even about this NEXUS thing. Travel to Gideon's mansion.

J. Saint Gideon

When Tex arrives at Gideon's, J. Saint tells Tex that he was just about to leave to go abroad.

How long?

Gideon thinks he can spare a few minutes before he departs. Ask him about Greg Call, and Gideon will tell you that Greg was his right-hand man back when he founded Gideon Enterprises.

Ask about NEXUS. Gideon will tell you about the dozens of abandoned government installations that Gideon Enterprises acquired the rights to use years ago, after the government signed the U.N.G.P. treaty. He says that NEXUS was the code name for an installation in Washington state, near Mount Shasta. Undoubtedly, this explains Bosworth Clark's lab as well.

Ask Gideon about Rona Morgan and Samuel Q. Jones to get some background on them and their affiliation with Gideon. Finally, ask Gideon about the photo of Frank Schimming and Sylvia. Hmm...I wonder what significance the picture could possibly have to Gideon.

Ask about whatever else you like, then travel to the NEXUS lab.
