Bosworth Clark's Lab

"As I entered Clark's lab, something caught my eye."

"What was it?"

"It was blood. It was all over the floor. I had probably walked into the middle of a murder scene, and the question was: Where was Bosworth Clark?"

To your left, as you enter the room, is a chair. Look at it, and Tex will mention that it seems out of place somehow. He's right. Why would there be a chair way over in the corner away from all the consoles?
Look at the smoke alarm on the wall above the chair. Notice that there's another smoke alarm on the opposite wall, above the poster with the satellite on it. Why would such a small room need two smoke alarms?
Bosworth had probably used the chair in the corner to stand on and reach the smoke alarm. Reach up and grab it off the wall.
Examine the smoke alarm. Well, well. It's not a smoke alarm after all. There's a small camera hidden inside, and a video disk inside the camera. We'll need to find something to play it on. Maybe what's on this disk will shed a little light on the whereabouts of Bosworth Clark.
Find the power switch on the middle console and turn it on. The three consoles will activate. Look at any of the three circular screens, and Tex will guess that they're part of some sort of satellite monitoring system.
Go across the room to the cot. Underneath the cot is a video disk player. And Tex just happens to have a video disk. How convenient.
Combine the video disk player with the video disk, then examine the loaded video disk player.

The video begins with a man sitting at one of the satellite monitoring consoles. An alarm sounds, and the man, startled, stands up, looks around, and takes a card from his shirt pocket. He walks off-screen and several rapid tones are heard. The man walks back on-screen and sits back down, without the card. He hits a key on the consoles keyboard, and the video changes viewpoints, now recording from the other side of the room.

Another man walks up behind the man at the console: "Bosworth?"

"Yes," the man at the console says, turning around. "Yes."

"Bosworth Clark?"

"Yes," Bosworth says again.

The standing man takes a gun out from his coat.

"Wha...? What is this?" Bosworth says nervously.

"We're going to play a little game," the other man says, and hands the gun to Bosworth. Bosworth, confused, starts to hand the gun back to the other man, but he's already pulled out another one, and is pointing it at Bosworth.

"One in six chances," the man says.

Bosworth, whimpering, reluctantly puts the gun to his head. He pulls the trigger. The gun clicks.

"Lucky boy," the man says as Bosworth hands the gun back to him. "One more time."

Bosworth is silent for a moment. Then: "No...don't do...thi..." Bosworth begins whimpering again and puts the gun back to his temple. The other man moves between Bosworth and the camera. A shot rings out, and the sound can be heard of Bosworth's gun falling to the floor.

The other man grabs the arm of Bosworth's chair and pulls it and Bosworth's body off-screen, but not before a devilish grin into the camera.

Who was the man in the video, and why did he kill Bosworth Clark? And what was that card that Bosworth stowed away? Must've been pretty important. Maybe we can get it somehow.

On the table near Bosworth's cot is an ash tray.  Pick it up and examine it to find a burned matchbook.
Examine the matchbook.  The cover's too badly burnt to know where it came from.
Next to the table is a cabinet. Open it up and get Bosworth's passcard reader inside.

Well, we've got Clark's passcard reader. Now we just need his passcard. Maybe that's what he stowed away just before he was killed. From the video, it looked like he might have walked to the area around his computer, so let's start looking there. Go over to Bosworth's computer.

It certainly isn't your normal computer, is it? Especially not with that strange colored keypad. Wonder what it does. Move the keypad to get a closer view.

Hit a few of the colored buttons. Hmm...the sounds they make sound the same as the sounds heard when Clark walked off-screen on the video. Maybe this colored keypad has something to do with where Bosworth stashed his card. Using the video as a reference, try and re-create the same seven-tone sequence on the keypad.

After successfully completing the sequence, a small drawer will open out from the computer. Inside, just as we hoped, is Bosworth's passcard.

Pick up Bosworth's card and examine it.  Bosworth had card G.

If experience has taught us anything, it's that we're going to need a password before we can get into Bosworth's computer. Go to the far end of the satellite consoles. On the end, facing the wall, is a piece of paper held onto the console with a magnet. Grab the paper, and you'll get the magnet, too. Examine the paper. Written on it is a word that's easily pronounceable -- just pull your tongue out through your nose.

If experience has taught us anything else, it's that the passwords for these cards are scrambled chess terms, and this one looks to be no exception. Unscramble "TCAHCMEKE" and you'll, eventually, come up with "CHECKMATE."

Once the password is entered, a screen comes up detailing the different phases of a project. Most likely the part of the STG project that Bosworth was working on. The project screen is followed by a short video of a satellite orbiting the Earth. What exactly was this STG project, and what part do these satellites play? Maybe if Bosworth were still alive, we could ask him, but it's a little late for that now.

Project Summary:

Start Date: 08/03/37
End Date: 11/10/37

Project Goals/Milestones:

08/24: Outline for Implementation of Interface
09/15: Stage 1 Programming Complete
10/06: Stage 2 Programming Complete
10/13: Satellite Relay Link Established (Alpha)
10/27: Completed Interface (Beta)
11/10: Testing Complete

Unfortunately, Tex arrived too late to get any information from Bosworth Clark, so there are still more questions than answers. He did find out a little more about the STG project, though. But only a little. A further search of Bosworth's lab won't turn up much. It's time to head back to civilization, and see what, if anything, Wanda Peck has come up with on that picture of Linsky.
